The Gospel According to Mary Magdalene
막달라 마리아의 복음서
Chapter 8
제 8 장

And desire said,
I did not see you descending, but now I see you ascending.
Why do you lie since you belong to me?
...and Desire said,
'I did not see you descend; but now I see you rising.
Why do you speak falsely, when you belong to me?'
그리고 욕망이 말하기를,
나는 당신의 타락은 보지 못했지만,
그러나 이제 당신이 날아오르는 것은 볼 수 있다.
그렇다면 왜 당신이 내게 속해 있을 때 거짓말을 했는가?
The soul answered and said,
I saw you. You did not see me nor recognize me.
I served you as a garment and you did not know me.
The soul answered and said,
'I saw you, but you did not see me or recognize me;
I served you as a garment and you did not recognize me.'
그러자 혼(魂)이 대답했다.
"당신은 나를 보지 못했고 나를 인식하지 못하고 있었지만
나는 당신을 보았다. 그리고 당신이 입고 다니는 옷처럼
당신 곁에서 늘 당신을 섬겨왔지만 당신은 나를 의식하지 못했다."
When it said this, it (the soul) went away rejoicing greatly.
After it had said this, it went joyfully and gladly away.
이렇게 말하고 혼(魂)은 기뻐하며 기꺼이 떠났다.
Again it came to the third power, which is called ignorance.
Again it came to the third power, Ignorance.
다시 혼(魂)은 무지라 불리워지는 세 번째 힘쪽으로 나아갔다.
The power questioned the soul, saying,
Where are you going? In wickedness are you bound.
But you are bound; do not judge!
This power questioned the soul:
'Whither are you going?
You were bound in wickedness, you were bound indeed.
Judge not' [cf. Matt. 7:1].
세 번째 힘이 혼(魂)에게 묻기를
너는 지금 어디로 가고 있는가? 너는 사악함에 물들어 살아왔구나.
비록 곤경에 처했다 하더라도 비판하지 말라!
And the soul said,
Why do you judge me, although I have not judged?
And the soul said, 'Why do you judge me, when I judged not?
그리고 혼(魂)이 말했다.
나는 너를 심판하지 않았는데 너는 왜 나를 심판하는가?
I was bound, though I have not bound.
I was bound, though I did not bind.
나는 묶여 있었지만 내 존재는 묶여 있지 않았다.
I was not recognized.
But I have recognized that the All is being dissolved,
both the earthly things and the heavenly.
I was not recognized,
but I recognized that all will go free,
things both earthly and heavenly.'
비록 나는 인식하지 못하고 있었지만
내 존재는 하늘과 땅에 있는 모든 것들이 하나로 합쳐져
자유로워지게 될 것임을 알고 있었다.
When the soul had overcome the third power,
it went upwards and saw the fourth power, which took seven forms.
After the soul had left the third power behind,
it rose upward, and saw the fourth power, which had seven forms.
혼(魂)이 세 번째 힘을 극복하고 위를 향해 나아가자
혼(魂)은 일곱가지 형상을 지닌 네 번째 힘을 만나게 되었다.
The first form is darkness, the second desire, the third ignorance,
the fourth is the excitement of death, the fifth is the kingdom of the flesh,
the sixth is the foolish wisdom of flesh, the seventh is the wrathful wisdom.
These are the seven powers of wrath.
The first form is darkness, the second desire, the third ignorance,
the fourth the arousing of death, the fifth is the kingdom of the flesh,
the sixth is the wisdom of the folly of the flesh,
the seventh is wrathful wisdom.
These are the seven participants in wrath.
그 첫 번째 형상은 어둠이요, 두 번째는 욕망이며,
세 번째는 무지이며, 네 번째는 죽음에 대한 생각으로 흔들림(動搖)이며,
다섯 번째는 물질세계에 대한 집착이고,
여섯 번째는 어리석은 육체적 인간에 대한 지식이며,
일곱 번째가 복수심에 대한 지식이다.
그리고 이것들이 분노한 일곱 힘들의 형상이다.
They asked the soul,
Whence do you come slayer of men,
or where are you going, conqueror of space?
They ask the soul,
'Whence do you come, killer of men,
or where are you going, conqueror of space?'
분노한 일곱 형상들이 혼(魂)에게 물었다.
살인자여, 너는 어디로부터 나왔는가?
(혹은 선량한 혼에게는 이렇게 말한다)
우주의 정복자여, 그대는 어디로 가는가?
The soul answered and said,
What binds me has been slain,
and what turns me about has been overcome,
The soul answered and said,
'What seizes me is killed; what turns me about is overcome;
혼(魂)이 이렇게 대답했다.
이제 나를 묶고있던 모든 속박들은 사라졌고
나를 방황하게 했던 것들도 극복되었다.
and my desire has been ended, and ignorance has died.
my desire has come to an end and ignorance is dead.
그리하여 나의 욕망은 끝을 맺었고, 무지는 죽어 버렸다.
In a aeon I was released from a world,
and in a Type from a type,
and from the fetter of oblivion which is transient.
In a world I was saved from a world, and in a "type," from a higher "type"
and from the fetter of the impotence of knowledge,
the existence of which is temporal.
천상의 영원함 속에서 나는 세상으로부터 구원을 얻었고,
세상이란 한 '형상'에서 보다 더 나은 '형상'으로 나아가는 도중에 있는
덧없는 존재상태라는 것에 대한 망각의 지식의 속박으로부터 벗어났다.
From this time on will I attain to the rest of the time,
of the season, of the aeon, in silence.
From this time I will reach rest in the time of the moment
of the Aeon in silence.'"
그리하여 지금 이 시간부터 나는 시간의 흐름이 멈춘,
침묵 속에 존재하고 있는 영원에 이를 수 있으리라.
